Chintsa United soccer (football) club was started in late 2018 by Songezo Golozana. The club consists of two teams made up of 26 players from Chintsa East. Through the club the young men are engaged in training during the week and often in tournaments during the weekend.
Unemployment is rife in Chintsa East and many young men get trapped in destructive cycles of drinking, drugs, aggression and violence. Chintsa United provides a positive outlet and focus for the players’ energies. It involves the players in constructive activities and which helps to give them a sense of purpose as well as the motivation not to get involved in activities which may impact their performance and let their team mates down.
