CHINTSA RUNNERS

Chintsa Runners was started in December 2013 by two local running enthusiasts, Steve and Ingrid Avidon. The primary aim is to enable Chintsa residents to participate in both social and competitive running events in the Eastern Cape.  Each year in December, the Chintsa Trail Run (and walk) is hosted by Steve and Ingrid in an effort to raise money for the following running year. Entry into the trail race is by donation of money and/or running kit (including shoes). All raised funds and running kit is dispersed to children and adults that want to run as a Chintsa Runner.  In addition, talented and/or committed runners are entered into local running events. In the past 3 years the “club” has entered many adult and younger runners into local events such as the Tomato Trot, the Jikeleza Trail Run and the Mpongo Park Trail Race. Samuel Luqongo has represented the Chintsa Runners at prestigious events such as the SkyRun Half (a 65 km non-stop trail run), Two Oceans Marathon (a 56km road ultra-marathon) and the 44km Addo Elephant Trail Run.

In 2018, Chintsa Runners will be starting weekly runs. The aim of the runs will be to encourage participation and a love for running, with the hope of improving self- esteem, promoting well-being and a sense of belonging. Steve and Ingrid firmly believe that Chintsa has a pool of undiscovered running talent. In identifying talented people, and  assisting in their training and development,  Chintsa Runners will be helping the youth of our country to fulfill their dreams, and through those dreams, help build their communities. As such, any monetary or kit/shoe donations to the Chintsa Runners will be greatly appreciated.
